Sharing the Success is the Leeds Local Enterprise Growth Initiative (LEGI), sometimes also called Leeds LEGI.
Following a successful bid to government, the city of Leeds secured over £20 million from the LEGI programme. The Leeds LEGI programme is currently funded until March 2011.
Although Leeds has seen tremendous growth in the last twenty years, not everyone has been able to share in that success. Sharing the Success will use enterprise to change people’s lives, particularly in the disadvantaged areas of Leeds ensuring every resident and business plays an active role in the continued success of the city.
By 2011 the programme aims to:
- Create 500 new businesses within the areas of greatest disadvantage in Leeds (two-thirds by local residents)
- Attract 75 new businesses into the target area
- Provide assistance to a further 650 existing business to develop
- Create 1,100 new jobs
As at May 2010 the programme has:
- helped create 302 new businesses
- supported 715 existing businesses
- created 573 new jobs
- engaged with 5,292 people
There is much work to do still however we are determined to carry on this important work till the end of the programme, and hopefully beyond.
Sharing the Success is administered by Leeds City Council.
