30 November 2009We’ve just had 'Global Entrepreneurship Week' and to mark the occasion Sharing the Success held a special Celebration for new entrepreneurs supported by the programme. Since it began in April 2007 around 300 new businesses have started in some of the city’s most disadvantaged areas.
The highlight of the celebration, which took place at Shine in Harehills, was a candid presentation from serial entrepreneur and star of Channel Four’s ‘Secret Millionaire’ show Carl Hopkins. Carl has 25 years experience in marketing and business and a list of accolades under his belt. Since selling this marketing agency JDA in 2007 he has launched a variety of businesses ranging from Kloog, his own business development consultancy to the ethnical children’s party venture ‘Parties Around the World.’
Carl gave an information-packed presentation which included some of his secrets of success. He talked of setting a ‘Big hairy audacious goal’ and gave several tips on how to improve your business profile through PR.
The evening also included a chance for a few guests to stand up and ‘sell’ their business to the audience. This included Spiwe Mandara who supports refugees making arts and crafts; Chris Tremlett who has a not-for-profit energy assessing firm and Michael Daniel who arranges inspirational music projects for the young people of Leeds.
Sam Moulem of MicroPhoenix was the lucky winner of the draw which gives him the chance to have an exclusive one-to-one with Carl in the future. MicroPhoenix recycles old computers and provides IT support.
The evening was praised by guests whose comments included: “Carl Hopkins was excellent”, “Very good evening”, "It was a great night, I throughly enjoyed it!"
